NIGCOMSAT, Lockheed Martins & GMV to likely enter Augmentation Systems Agreement

On the 23rd January 2018, at the headquarters of NIGCOMSAT Ltd in Abuja, there was a collaborative talk between management of NIGCOMSAT Ltd with the combined team of Lockheed Martin (USA) and GMV (Spain) on the possibility of providing 2nd Generation Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) to the whole globe in an effort which seeks to distribute ownership across regions in other to mitigate against constraints experienced with the 1st generation SBAS in areas concerning technology, cost and regional politics. The second-generation SBAS is based on a Multi Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) constellations on dual frequency broadcast otherwise known as Dual Frequency Multi-Constellation (DFMC). In attendance were, Mr. Robert L. Jackson, Global SBAS Project lead from Lockheed Martins; Mr Miguel M. Romay , the Executive Directive of GNSS Aerospace of GMV; Executive Directors of NIGCOMSAT Ltd (Engr K.K Raji, Barrister Samson Osagie, Alhaji Lema Abubakar) and technical team of NIGCOMSAT.
The Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT Ltd ably represented by Executive Director, Engineering Services stressed that the joint collaborative effort will create opportunity for new business model across multiple countries especially as it concerns services and multi-modal applications in the aviation and maritime sector with optimization of rationalized ground infrastructure and space segment.
The global SBAS advantages include superior performance, lower costs and eliminates dependency on one GNSS constellation for services and applications. The vast services and applications includes but not limited to precision agriculture, construction, medicine, consumer, rail, road, maritime, mining, cattle rearing, spatial and utilities.
