Women in Aerospace (WIA) was founded over 25 years ago in the USA and since then it has grown from strength to strength with sister organisations across the world. The organisation is dedicated to expanding women's opportunities for leadership and increasing their visibility in the aerospace community.
The Nigerian chapter of WIA; Women in Aerospace Nigeria (WIAN) was established in 2013 and has the official support of the Nigerian Space and Research Development Agency (NASRDA).
The NIGCOMSAT Chapter of WIAN was inaugurated on the 30th of May 2019, at the NIGCOMSAT Ground Control Station in Abuja, whilst the maiden conference took place on the 30th of July 2019, at the Boroffice Hall in NARSDA.
As part of its activities in increasing the visibility of women in aerospace, the NIGCOMSAT chapter of WIAN co-ordinates and participates in educational visits to schools to educate learners about the possibilities and career opportunities through space related studies.
